EURASIAN TEAL
Apart from Mallard, the Eurasian Teal is the commonest duck species occurring in Slovenia during the winter.
The first Teals arrive at the Sečovlje salt-pans as early as in August and can then be seen until April. Although these ducks have their largest wintering grounds at Ptuj reservoir, their regular wintering quarters on the Slovene coast are not to be neglected either. At the pans, even up to 400 overwintering individuals have been observed.
