LITTLE EGRET
is the smallest among the three heron species that regularly occur in the Sečovlje Salina.
In Slovenia, the Little Egret does not breed, although some of them may be seen in the summer months in breeding plumage, when they are adorned with long ornamental plumes on the crown of their heads and backs. In the Sečovlje Salt-pans they reside throughout the year. Individually or in smaller groups they feed in shallowly inundated salt-fields or on the edge of the levees.
