COOT
The most abundant overwintering birds at the Sečovlje salt-pans are Coots (over 1,000 individuals), which are also known to breed in the reeds along the estuary of the Dragonja river.
In high numbers, they occur as early as in October, reaching the peak in the winter months. The Coots' most important winter quarters on the Slovene coast are the very Sečovlje salt-pans, where they reside mostly in the larger salt-pan basins at the mouth of the Dragonja river and in the basin behind the Museum of Salt-making.
