SPIDER CICADA
The reeds along the pans’ margins are inhabited by the Spider Cicada, whose leaf-like thickened forelegs remind us of spiders’ legs.
The Spider Cicada is even more reminiscent of spiders due to the fact that it has atrophied wings. The speckled Spider Cicada female differs a great deal from the striped male. The latter has, in comparison with females, his forelegs even thicker and black, which probably means that he uses them for communicating purposes during copulation or fights with his rivals.
