Historical data gathering

It is no doubt that the ecological conditions and fauna with them have changed a great deal at Sečovlje salt-pans in the last few decades.

Some species that used to be abundant in the past are now rare or have even disappeared. Others that once upon a time bred in the pans or in their immediate vicinity do not breed there any longer. And there are some that used to be considered rare, but now breed here and in even increasing numbers.

For some species that have been observed in the area of Sečovlje salt-pans and their immediate vicinity, records about their occurrence exist, but these  birds have not been registered during our surveys. Even a possibility that they will return one day is becoming increasingly smaller. These kind of data are treated by us as »historical«.
