Tools and working methods

The tools used by the salters in their daily work are made of wood that has not been chemically treated or coated.

Occasionally they use aluminium shovels to load and unload the salt. When the terrain does not offer sufficient difference in altitude for the water to flow from higher to lower areas, this is done by electric pumps.

The work in the crystallisation area uses traditional manual techniques to work the clay terrain and to raise the heel. In the thickening basins, however, construction machinery is increasingly being used.
