Students Discover Life In and Around Water

At the end of the school year, fifth-grade students from Sečovlje Primary School successfully completed their exploration of Slovenia’s natural parks as part of the Quiz of the Slovenian Community of Natural Parks. This year's quiz theme was "Life In and Around Water."

The students learned about different types of aquatic ecosystems, the organisms that live in and near water, and the interdependence between these habitats and human activities.

On Monday, 23 June 2025, two representatives of the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park (KPSS) visited the school, where they awarded the participating students with certificates of recognition and sustainable water bottles. The school also received a set of educational materials for use in the upcoming school year.

Using these materials, students will explore the world of the European pond turtle—a native species of Slovenian wetlands that also inhabits the Sečovlje Salina. The educational toolkit was developed within the framework of the LIFE URCA PROEMYS project, which focuses on the conservation of this endangered species and its habitat.

A big congratulations to the students and their mentors for their dedication to learning and their contribution to nature conservation!
