Pavček’s poetry comes to life in the colours of young artists
On Friday, 25 September, the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park hosted its first art event for older primary school pupils from the Municipality of Piran. Thirty-six pupils from five schools took part, and we were delighted by the turnout.
In August, we opened the Pavček Trail in Lera, where the poet’s verses meet the landscape of the salt pans. A web app guides visitors from one stop to the next, letting them listen to the poems as they walk through the salt pans. This meeting of poetry and landscape also inspired our art event, A Poem Captured in the Colours of the Salt Pans – The Sečovlje Salt Pans Through Pavček’s Eyes.
The young artists began with a guided tour of the Lera area, where they discovered the Pavček Trail and the natural and cultural heritage of the salt pans. Afterwards, with guidance from Nives Marvin and Fulvia Zudič, they explored how to turn the poet’s words and their impressions of the place into paintings.
The beautiful sunny day offered plenty of colour and inspiration, while Pavček’s verses gave each pupil a starting point for a personal interpretation. Their work shows that curiosity and enthusiasm for art remain very much alive among young people.
Thank you to all the pupils, teachers and schools who too.
