The herbaceous seepweed is a common halophyte of flooded but also dry soils.
It does not have a high degree of cover in communities, although it occurs in almost all stand types. It is common at the foot of large and small embankments and along canals. In October, it colours the Sečovlje salt pans a striking reddish colour. It blooms from July to September.
