The jackal is primarily nocturnal, most active at dusk and dawn. It digs burrows or converts abandoned dens or rock crevices for shelter and rest.

In Slovenia, it has spread almost throughout the country in recent years. The Sečovlje salt pans and the outskirts are also home to a few jackals, which have already formed a pack. Occasionally, it can also be seen in the salt marshes, where it preys on the eggs and young of nesting birds.
