The Little Egret does not breed in Slovenia. It occurs as a summer visitor. It is seen on the flyover during the wintering period. It overwinters only along our seashores.
It is the most common of the three herons that regularly occur in the Sečovlje salt pans. It stays here all year round. Individually or in groups, which can number several hundred individuals, they feed in shallowly flooded salt fields or at the edge of canals. They are particularly numerous in September. Hundreds of them roost in a communal roost in the treetops on the Seča peninsula.
*It is considered a qualifying species in favourable conservation status in the Sečovlje salt pans.
