In Slovenia, the European golden plover is a perennial flyer that winters exceptionally and irregularly.

It winters in the Sečovlje salt pans in spring and autumn, and individuals can also be observed in winter. It is common in February and March, when up to 10 individuals of this species can be observed at a time.

*In the Sečovlje salt pans, it is considered a qualified species in a favourable conservation status.
