It is the most common species of Loons found here, wintering mainly at sea.

Despite winter sightings inland, the only major permanent wintering habitat for Arctic Loon in Slovenia is at sea. Numbers vary from year to year, but are usually higher during severe winters. It is listed as a regular overwintering species for the area of the Sečovlje salt pans. In the Sečovlje salt pans, they first appear as early as October and leave the salt pans in April. Late migrants can also be observed in May. Sometimes there are dozens of them in the sea in front of the salt pans. They also stray into the larger channels and pools in the interior of the salt pans.

*In the Sečovlje salt pans it is considered a qualifying species in unfavourable conservation status, but its occurrence cannot be influenced.
