Toads spend most of the year on land (hiding under rocks, leaves and in burrows in the ground), only in early spring, in March and April, they leave the forests where they overwinter to find permanent roosts in the water.
The common toad is widespread and common in Slovenia. In the Sečovlje salt pans, it can be found in the drainage ditches by the airport, where it deposits its food.
