The saline pools and highly saline water of the pans’ basins are inhabited by Brine Shrimps, which under favourable conditions rapidly increase in numbers through unisexual propagation.
They feed on tiny single-celled algae. Their highly resistant eggs can survive unfavourable times on dry land, commingled with dried mud.
