Nature conservation supervision is the direct control of nature and ensures that the legal prohibitions and regulations issued for protected areas are respected. In addition to inspectors, nature conservation monitors are employed by the manager to carry out such monitoring. The qualifications of the nature conservation inspectors are verified by the relevant Ministry. The law also allows for voluntary nature conservation supervision.

NATURE CONSERVATION SUPERVISION IN PROTECTED AREAS - STATE PARKS

The Nature Conservation Act (Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia No 96/04 - Officially consolidated text, 61/06 - Zdru-1 and 8/10 - ZSKZ-B, hereinafter referred to as the 'Act') established measures for the conservation of biodiversity and a system for the protection of natural values, with the aim of contributing to the conservation of nature. According to Article 155 of the ZON, in addition to inspectors, nature conservation inspectors (Rangers) also exercise direct control in nature over compliance with the prohibitions of this Act and the regulations issued on the basis of it.

It is the task of the manager of the SPA (protected area) to conclude employment or other appropriate contracts with nature conservation inspectors (Rangers) in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act and to provide them with appropriate professional training and uniforms and insignia.

A nature conservation officer (Ranger) is an authorised official who performs direct control tasks on the basis of a public mandate, in accordance with the Conservation Act.
