Code of conduct
The visitors of the Park are kindly requested to:

  • follow the marked trails along the Dragonja river, at Lera and along the St. Jernej Channel by foot or bike and experience the unique environment of the salt-pans without leaving the marked paths;
  • leave their cars at parking places in front of the entrances to the Park or to make a journey there with the special boat and authorised guide;
  • be considerate of walkers, bikers and salt-workers, should you decide to visit the Park with a motor vehicle, by driving very slowly only to the Park's administration building at Lera or to the Museum of Salt-making at Fontanigge;
  • to visit the Park in the company of our guide along one of the educational-observational Salina trails;
  • to keep dogs on the lead if talking a walk along the Dragonja river or St. Jernej Channel, in order not to disturb the birds; or other visitors, or to prevent any damage being made to the salt-fields' substratum;
  • to understand that salt-fields are the natural habitat of endangered animals and plants and that this is the reason why you should not walk in them, throw stones into them, bathe in brine or mud (called fango) and take mud and salt away in any quantities;
  • to watch the animals without disturbing or pursuing them in any way;
  • not to pick flowers, bearing in mind that they are endangered and certainly the prettiest when admired in nature;
  • to be aware that camping, fire burning, swimming and fishing disturb the highly sensitive saline environment;
  • not to damage the abandoned salt-pan houses and other structures, sluice gates and levees;
  • to keep the Park clean by taking any leftovers and litter with you or to the nearest container;
  • to make audio and video recordings, but not for commercial purposes;
  • to be aware that noise disturbs the sensitive saline environment;
  • to respect the work of salt-pan workers;
  • to understand that salt is a victual and that you should in no way encroach upon it.
