Highly important for the salt-pan inhabitants are small, sandy and silty levees without vegetation as well as well overgrown levees. If due to the ravages of time a levee collapses, creating several islets, this is no disaster at all, for they are quickly chosen as their breeding sites by the most important salt-pan birds!
